The trend of the application of AIS data usage is currently growing with the installation of AIS receivers on satellites. Different placements of antena position will produce different coverage area as well. It will affect the AIS data that can be received by the AIS receiver on the satellite. The combination of AIS and SAR data from satellites is now increasingly an option to monitor marine crime continuously, especially for a wide waters area such as in Indonesia. Coverage of AIS antena can also affect the possibility of combining AIS data and SAR data. In this research, a simulation of AIS antenna placement on satellites in several positions will be carried out to obtain the optimal position on the satellite by analyzing the link margin value of the AIS signal generated at each position. The purpose of this study is to obtain an optimal AIS antenna placement for LAPAN SAR satellites. The simulation and calculation show that antena placement on the Y axis is of the satellite is the optimal position to be used on SAR satellites. In this antena position the antena has a narrow coverage which is extends in the direction of the Y axis so it will reduce the amount of data collision. In this position coverage AIS is also in line with SAR coverage so that when the AIS data is received from the ship it is the same as when the ship is detected by SAR sweeps.
